Odú of the Year 2013: Organising Committee for the Odú of the Year in Cuba


This is the version that is used in my ilé, and it comes from the Organising Committee for the Odú of the Year in Cuba by the Miguel Febles Padrón, Awó Odí Ká House. This group has been a practice to gather for the last 26 years at their temple in Ave. 10 de Octubre #1059 and Josefina y Gertrudis, Víbora in the City of Habana, Cuba.

To all priests of Ifá, Oriatés, babaloshas, iyaloshas, and iworos.


The ceremony was presided by a priest of Ifá, David Cedrón, ‘Otura Sá’ with the support from priests of Ifá from all families in Cuba, their descendants around the world, the oddú was determined by the youngest priest present. Ruling Odú: Obge Oturá


Ruling Orisha: Shangó

Shangó represents the manifestation of the ire of Olodumare, supreme creator. He launches bolts from the heavens above, and he is the owner of storms, the divinity that burns cities and plots of land. Shango is the son of Oranyan and the powerful warrior son of Oduduwa. He is the heavenly prosecutor. He is not allowed to lie, steal of poison. He is revered across the land but in particular in the City of Oyó.


Secondary Orisha Ruling: Oshún

The divinity of maternity and protector of children. Originally from Ijumu and Oshogbo, Nigeria, where there is a river that bears her name. We give her offerings to protect our children during pregnancy and early age. She is received to ease problems with children, and she helps children with developmental matters and influences their behavior.


Prophesy: Tragedy amongst people for usurping rights.


Onishe Shango: Offering of amalá ilá (cornmeal with okra) and two candles

Onishe ará: Baths with white and purple flowers to which Everclear or rum must be added.

Onishe ilé: Sarayeye with 7 strong herbs to which rum must be blown upon them should be dusted with efún and tied up with a red ribbon.


Ebbó: Akuko Fifeshu, dirt from the 4 corners, seawater, rotten soil, a dagger, and other traditional ingredients.


Flag of the Year: Rectangle, half white and half yellow with a red border.


Diseases: Cerebrovascular problems (embolic, ischemia, etc.) and Skin diseases (leprosy, scabies, abscesses, boils, etc.…) With blood pressure disorders.

Of social interest: 1. Increase in imports and foreign aid. 2. Epidemics arriving from other countries affecting mainly children and the elderly. 3. New taxes of common interest. 4. Discontent and rebellion in some sectors of society. 5. Agricultural problems due to soil pollution. 6. Increase in problems caused by alcoholism. 7. Money scams in all their manifestations.


Advice: 1. Reinforce the sector of neurology. 2. Do a phytochemical study of the root of eucalyptus and caimito. 3. Establish a teaching system of behavioral norms. 4. Augment investments in pesticides and fertilizers. 5. Bear in mind false accusations and unfair judicial measures. 6. Highlight hygiene when handling food.


Expressions associated with the Odú: 1. The earth may rot but will not die. 2. Do not pull your food from the fire before its time. 3. You will rarely see a hard-working man in need. 4. He who has two arms and does not work is the father of laziness. 5. The measure of an intelligent man is the sword with which he conquers his goals. 6. Strenght is found in unity. 7. An arrow cannot kill an idea. 8. A crab builds his house but has no time to build the roof. 9. The turtle plants beans but has no time to harvest them. 10. A knife for your own throat. 11. You must first give to receive.
