About Omimelli
Thank you for visiting my site. I am Omimelli. I like to describe myself as a servant of the Orishas. It is from that position of humble servitude that I best honor Yemayá and serve the community. My life is one of service and my motto: "Do right, live right" represents the way I live my life every day.
I am also a Yaya Niksi from the Vititi Congo lineage and as such I also adhere to traditional Palo practices.
My entry way to Palo and later on to the Orishas was through Spiritism. Because I live in the south of the U.S. I have dedicated a good deal of my time to study the Hoodoo use of plants and other elements for healing and for improving daily life through spiritual technology.
Since 2010 I have sustained the cost of this website out of my own pocket. I have dedicated thousands of hours to develop content and articles for the benefit of any person wanting to learn about the Orishas. I ask you for a donation to the maintenance of this page according to your means. I appreciate that you value my work and the thousands of dollaras I have invested over the years to preserve the culture and religion of the Lukumí.
Ashé O!
Omimelli, Oní Yemayá Achabá
Frequently asked questions
How can I learn more about the Orishas?
The Mystic Cup Blog has a variety of articles about the Orishas. You are welcome to read them. If you still have questions, please email omimelli@gmail.com
Where do I find a Lukumi or Orisha community near me?
Orisha and Lukumi communities are in nearly every large metropolitan area in the U.S., the Caribbean, Central and South America as well as in many countries in Europe and globally. You an always drop a note to omimelli@gmail.com and we will try to connect you with reputable communities in your area if we have that information.
Can I practice the Lukumi religion or Orisha on my own without being initiated?
The Lukumi or Orisha way of life is communal. This is not something you just learn online or from books and practice alone. Initiations are vitals and so is a support system which includes godparents and a vital active community.
How do I find a reputable godparent?
Finding a godparent takes time. The best way to figure this out is by being observant, asking other people in the community and listening actively. Do not rush to choose a godparent. Knowing someone can take years, this is not an easy choice because it often leads to life-long commitments. Thus, selecting carefully is paramount.
